Camp Glenburn:

Since 1928, the YMCA's Camp Glenburn has been empowering youth through outdoor education, uninhibited creativity, skill development and communal living. Our mission is to strengthen today's youth by giving them the tools, confidence and compassion to become tomorrow's role models and leaders.


Camp Glenburn is a non-denominational camp, open to all. Located on 30 acres of land on the beautiful Belleisle Bay, Camp Glenburn offers something for everyone to explore. Climb high ropes, go on a canoeing adventure or spend the evening stargazing.


The Opportunity:

The Counsellor in Training Director's responsibilities include: the design and implementation of an 9 week leadership training program for 18 youth, ages 15 and 16. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, be creative, and have a strong work ethic. This position requires the ability to communicate with teens, have strong group facilitation skills, and have an existing knowledge and experience of all camp programming.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of a quality C.I.T program.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to, developing a summer schedule designed to train our future staff in all aspects of residential camping, planning and scheduling of both a 3-4 night hike and canoe trip, and assisting in the development of swim and canoe instruction and examinations.
  • Responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to C.I.T's by: setting group/individual goals, hosting check-ins, assisting in self-evaluations, delivering evaluations, guiding skill development, and fostering a sense of team.
  • Responsible in participating in the planning implementation of a staff training program for all counseling staff.
  • As a member of the Camp Glenburn Staff Team, the C.I.T Director will be a positive role model for fellow staff, C.I.T's and campers in every aspect of camp life, being conscious of health, dress, speech, etiquette and relations with others.
  • Responsible for the care, safety, storage and inventory of all equipment and supplies.
  • To assist in other Camp operations as requested by the Camp Director.
  • Responsible for participating in the development and implementation of camp-wide emergency procedure specific to the area of responsibility
  • To strive to ensure that every child who attends Camp Glenburn is treated with respect, understanding and compassion.
  • Responsible in ensuring that Camp Glenburn remains a peaceful, positive and educational environment for all its campers, CITs, staff, resource and guests.
  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards, Child Protection Practices.
  • Each resource member is expected to be a positive role model in all aspects of camp life, being particularly conscious of personal behavior including dress, speech, etiquette, and relationships with other staff members

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ongoing or completed Bachelor's Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a Day Camp or Youth Program setting.
  • C.U.I Certification on high ropes and climbing wall considered an asset
  • N.L.S and N.L.S Waterfront Certification
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.
  • Strong communication, customer service skills, a team player.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License

Required:

  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
