Your Opportunity: The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) works in collaboration and partnership across Alberta Health Services and with all external partners to support innovation and improvement in Indigenous Health and to work towards health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities. The IWC has a significant opportunity to improve the health of Indigenous Peoples in Alberta by focusing on upstream efforts and health equity, creating and building on community empowerment and action, and transforming health service delivery to address racism and focus more on determinants of health and prevention. The IWC is the mechanism through which AHS plans to achieve on-going provincial improvement in Indigenous health, patient outcomes and experience, health improvement and sustainability of Alberta’s health system. The Honouring Life (HL) Program addresses risk factors by building community capacity to support Indigenous youth mental health and wellbeing. Reporting directly to the Business Operations Manager, the Honouring Life Coordinator (HLC) is the key contact for First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) communities/organizations supporting Indigenous youth to apply for funding through the HL Program. Within a multi-disciplinary team, the HLC works collaboratively and engages extensively with key contacts in FNMI communities/organizations, to successfully support them in the development of an HL proposal, ensuring the project proposal meets the application and program guidelines. The HLC supports the Business Operations Manager with knowledge management, expert consultative abilities, and strategic communication. The HLC actions requests, initiating and providing recommendations, as appropriate, and is responsible for the synthesis of complex information, issues, and opinions into common directives and strategies. Description: Key contact for applicants who are applying or interested in applying for Honouring Life (HL) funding. Provide hands on assistance to applicants during the application development and remains the key contact during the life of the contract. Ensures applications meet the funding requirements in the Grant agreement, meeting financial and contractual requirements. Interpret applicant needs, assess requirements, and identify areas the Program can support. Provide guidance to demonstrate respect for traditional values, beliefs and protocols. Collaborating with research associates, track HL performance measures monthly to demonstrate outcomes. Draft/Edit written and oral presentations, summaries & reports. Project point person; provides support during all project phases and project management processes. Implements project plans, ensuring project objectives meet overall IWC goals. Provides support developing project charters and work plans. Is responsible, works independently and as part of a team, escalates when needed. Represent & promote HL at various internal/external meetings and other gatherings. Collaborate with team and project leads to build, manage and sustain key internal/external stakeholder relationships. Coordinates with partners/stakeholders, to plan important meetings; develops meeting materials; facilitate meetings. Promote cultural safety for Indigenous peoples and communities participating in the program. Collaborates with Business Manager to identify risks and issues, and to problem solve. Provides written and verbal status updates to Project Teams. Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum three years' experience working with Indigenous Communities. Knowledge and sensitivity around the culture and health issues of Indigenous people as well as successful experience working in multi-cultural environments. A well-developed understanding of community-based work in an Indigenous community setting. Self-directed with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, with an ability to handle multiple tasks. Strong written and oral skills for the use in the development of oral presentations, summaries, reports, etc. Seeks guidance to connect with external partners to AHS. Liaises with internal and external contacts to participate in scientific activities. Ability to manage and prioritize work and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and team skills. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to work with high level external and internal key stakeholders. Conflict management expertise focusing on group dynamics and diverse priorities. Aptitude for building and sustaining complex relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
