The Natural Resources, Transportation and Indigenous Legal Group, Transportation and Land Unit, is recruiting one lawyer, specifically Legal Counsel 2 (six to 11 years of call) or Legal Counsel 3 (12 or more years of call), for one regular, full-time position. The Transportation and Land Unit provides legal advice on transportation infrastructure projects and Crown land transactions. The Unit is an advice-driven organization that supports government in the management and administration of the province’s transportation corridors and Crown land management. This position is related to advising the Transportation Investment Corporation (“TI Corp”) on the administration of project agreements on large transportation infrastructure projects. The position is for lawyers with excellent organizational, client relations and communication skills, who can work in a fast-paced practice providing reliable advice. TI Corp is a Crown corporation responsible for delivering several key transportation infrastructure projects within the province, including the Broadway Subway Project, the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project and the new Surrey-Langley Skytrain and Fraser River Tunnel projects. This position requires regular contact with TI Corp’s commercial teams to provide legal advice on a variety of issues arising from the administration of the various project agreements. Travel may be required. The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. Legal Services Branch provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. Legal Services Branch’s clients include all Ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Job Requirements: Eligible for Membership in the Law Society of British Columbia. Level dependent on years of call (six to 11 years of call for Legal Counsel 2, and 12 or more years of call for Legal Counsel 3). Preference may be given to candidates with: experience in construction law and in resolving large infrastructure project-related disputes and other construction-related disputes; experience providing advice and strategy in relation to construction contract implementation issues; experience in civil litigation or alternative dispute resolution; demonstrated experience working as a member of a team on large construction projects.
