Purpose:Reporting to the Manager, Office of Student Community Relations the Supports &Services Coordinator is responsible for maximizing student engagement and success through supporting students impacted by critical incidents, facing personal crises or multiple complex issues.The Office of Student Community Relations (OSCR) is the only office mandated to deal with non-academic student conduct. It is the role of the Coordinator to work to resolve complaints regarding inappropriate student behaviour either informally or through formal disciplinary processes as well as providing education and training on students' rights and responsibilities to students, faculty and staff.The Coordinator advocates for students to secure academic accommodations, financial assistance, stop-outs/leaves and emergency housing. As a key member of the OSCR team, this position is also committed to fostering student success by upholding the behavioural expectations outlined in the Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities(CSRR). The Coordinator is responsible for providing advice, referrals, training, alternate dispute resolution methods, judicial processes (local adjudication, tribunals), critical incident support and student leadership opportunities. This position also provides supports and services to students who are respondents of sexual violence as well as ensuring staff and faculty respondents are provided with supports through the Employee Well Being-Office and appropriate staff and faculty associations.This position is a member of the critical response team and also provides supports and services to students of concern as required.Education:A post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Equity Studies or Education, Critical Disabilities Studies, Public Health, Education) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional training in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), mental health and sexual violence. French would be an asset.Experience:Minimum 3 years' progressive experience dealing with multiple complex student issues, student conduct cases, critical incident, crisis management and gender based violence. Post-secondary experience advising related to student conduct / critical incident management/coordination is preferred. Experience with case management and coordinating services based on the needs of the individual. Experience supporting community members on issues related to student conflict, mental health, behavioural concerns and sexual violence from an intersectional lens. Experience facilitating training and/or running educational groups would be an asset. Experience or knowledge of coordinating safety planning and/or risk assessments with those who have experienced violence. Understanding of university policies, workplace legislation, criminal justice system and police policy and procedures. Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners and to balance the multiple interests of diverse stakeholders, including a broad range of groups. Demonstrated experience with a diverse population, within a large organizational structure. Experience with labour relations and working with various unions and associations, would be an asset. Demonstrated strong political and institutional acumen, and the ability to influence without direct authority.Knowledge of York University community resources (CDS, Women's Centre, food bank, Safe house etc.), Toronto area resources, and York safety and emergency procedures are assets as well as experience in the use and application alternate dispute resolution and understanding of administrative law principles.Skills:Highly developed oral and written communication, analytical, relationship management and organizational skills. Strong understanding of intersectionality and anti-oppression frameworks. Demonstrated broad understanding of equity and inclusion and significant experience working within diverse communities. Ability to interact and collaborate with individuals at all levels within the University as well as externally, including students, staff, faculty and community partners. Ability to exercise patience, tact, judgment and discretion. Demonstrated ability to relate to students, staff, and faculty in ways that build confidence and trust. Ability to deal with senior University Administrators in a manner which facilitates cooperation. High degree of political acuity and judgment. Strong active listening skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to provide guidance and assistance with mediation and other alternate resolution mechanisms. Demonstrated ability to act calmly under pressure and to deal effectively and efficiently with stressful and emergency situations. Ability to produce detailed and comprehensive reports from a large volume of complex information. Ability to work with multiple stakeholder needs towards a common outcome. Ability to interpret and follow policies and protocols.Proficient with MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Access), web based mail (i.e. MS Outlook) and proficiency with web content software (Dreamweaver). Experience creating and updating databases is an asset. However, when dealing with people in critical incident situations and student conduct situations, the Supports and Services Coordinator is exposed to situations which may be aggressive or with unpredictable outcomes. May be required to respond outside of normal working hours to calls for providing advice and/or support in the event of a critical incident situation.Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credential(s) or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.Compensation:York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
