Veterinary Receptionist

Acres Animal Hospital is an independently owned and operated small animal veterinary hospital. We are looking for a full time or part time veterinary assistant-receptionist to join our team. The successful applicant will be a friendly individual who can work both independently and in a team to provide individualized veterinary medical care to our patients, and excellent customer service to our clients. . As both conventional medicine and alternative medicine are offered to our patients, the successful applicant should be ready to learn something new!

Duties include but are not limited to:

• answer telephone and reply to messages
• schedule appointments
• maintain a clean and welcoming reception area
• greet clients as they enter in a friendly and welcoming manner
• collect detailed patient history and other information
• assist the veterinarian in providing veterinary medical care to patients
• restraint of patients (dogs and cats) for examination and care
• assist in the preparation of medications for treatment of patients
• maintain detailed and accurate medical records and logs
• clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels
• clean and maintain instruments and equipment
• communicate with pet owners; help educate them on their pet's care
• invoicing and taking payments
• pet food sales
• checking email messages and replying

Qualifications

• high school diploma and successful completion of college veterinary assistant program or relevant university degree
• animal handling ability with dogs and cats to restrain for procedures
• math skills to perform patient care calculations and for cashier duties
• people skills: effective verbal and written communications
• telephone skills: ability to handle two lines
• computer skills adequate to create electronic medical records and use veterinary software
• able to work independently and in a team
• quick learner
• accurate attention to detail
• able to lift 50 pounds
• knowledge of alternative medicine preferred
• compassionate and caring

Acres Animal Hospital is open 12 noon to 6pm, and employees are typically scheduled for 7-9 hour shifts between 10am-7pm. There are no weekend, overnight, or early morning shifts. Salary: $17.00-$19.00 per hour
