Job Description

Qualifications:

Red Seal certified
Experience in operating a kitchen
Experience in ordering supplies and food costing
motivated individual who works well minimal supervision
Prior experience in not-for-profit organizations and/or health care settings would be considered an advantage
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
Must maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times in accordance with the policies of the Home
Must be physically able to perform all assigned duties and functions
Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for the majority of shift

It is expected that the Cook will establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers, residents, visitors, and other staff.

Primary Functions:

Perform resident services (dietary) i.e., preparation and organization of all foods cooked for residents, staff, and visitors. To ensure that portion controls, temperature records, and production menus are adhered to on a daily basis and to work closely with the Operations Manager.

Objectives:

To plan, direct and prepare all meals and snacks
To practice sanitary methods of food preparation and good personal hygiene habits
To run an effective kitchen
To respect confidentiality on matters related to the Home
Ordering/receiving inventory
Menu planning
Preparation and serving of meals
Ensures safe preparation of meals
Assists in food preparation for special events
Visit resident (in regards to food preferences and dietary restrictions) as required
Supervise job performance of the dietary aides and cooks
Aid the Operations Manager in employee evaluations
Participates, directs and maintains cleaning of the kitchen area, stores rooms, and all equipment
Responsible for reporting maintenance breakdowns in the kitchen areas on work requisitions
Assist in employee orientations
Attend all in-services as required
Participates in fire drills
Attends relevant all meetings
